The funny animal genre predates comic books and began evolving in the 1920's. Early examples include Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Foxy the Fox, Felix the Cat, Flip the Frog and the most famous of all Mickey Mouse.
The introducion of color in films allowed greater scope for creating funny animals as evidenced by the characters who appeared in the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts. And of course we should not forget the ever feuding duo of Tom and Jerry.
As always, the comic book publishers saw a potential market and launched a variety of funny animal characters and titles.
Even the Marvel franchise wanted a slice of the action and added Hoppy the Marvel Bunny. Mice were a very popular choice with: Atomic Mouse, Marmaduke Mouse, Mighty Mouse, Space Mouse and Supermouse. But foxes, lions, cows, geese and a whole raft of other species also shared the limelight with them.
We have 110 titles and 1,330 issues in our 'Funny Animals Category' for you to enjoy.
