Arguably the most important comic in this category is MLJ's Pep Comics #22. The title was a mixture of genres dominated by superheroes. In this issue, published December 1941, a red haired kid named Archie makes his first appearance. He would prove to be the company's biggest asset, so much so that in 1945 it was renamed Archie Comics.
This section also holds some early comics strips, one of which is Krazy Kat, who is besotted by Ignatz Mouse. The feeling is not mutual and Offissa Bull Pupp attempts to keep order. The strip is critically acclaimed and often cited as a source of artistic inspiration.
An interesting title is Foxy Fagan. Although it was not a commercial success, only running for seven issues, it represents a collaboration between Harvey Eisenberg and Joe Barbera (one half of the famous partnership Hanna-Barbera). Both of who worked on Tom and Jerry.
As a final word, also worth a look are a couple of ghosts. Spencer Spook, who actually predates Casper, and Charlton's Timmy the Timid Ghost.
We have 505 titles and 5,931 issues in our 'Humor Category' for you to enjoy.
