Wow, that is 100-proof pre-code horror there. Some of this stuff makes Tales from the Crypt look like Timmy the Timid Ghost. So this is what Dr. Wertham was so upset about. |

The covers remind me of the old “Shudder Pulps” of the ‘30s. I wonder if that was intentional. The actual stories are much tamer. |

Really good and creepy. I'm a 50's kid, born 1938, loved these pre-code comic mags then and again now; with thanks to this wonderful site. Thank you to all concerned. |

Wow! As one who grew up in the 50s and 60s on Silver Age comics, where certain things just didn't happen, this is an eye opener. Grudgingly, I would have to say I think Wertham may have had a point, sort of. I can understand wanting to limit kids' access to stuff like this, but some of his other choices on this list strike me as silly, and a stretch as far as being harmful. |
