Wow, that is 100-proof pre-code horror there. Some of this stuff makes Tales from the Crypt look like Timmy the Timid Ghost. So this is what Dr. Wertham was so upset about.

The covers remind me of the old “Shudder Pulps” of the ‘30s. I wonder if that was intentional. The actual stories are much tamer.

Really good and creepy. I'm a 50's kid, born 1938, loved these pre-code comic mags then and again now; with thanks to this wonderful site. Thank you to all concerned.

Wow! As one who grew up in the 50s and 60s on Silver Age comics, where certain things just didn't happen, this is an eye opener. Grudgingly, I would have to say I think Wertham may have had a point, sort of. I can understand wanting to limit kids' access to stuff like this, but some of his other choices on this list strike me as silly, and a stretch as far as being harmful.
