SynopsisBank teller Grace, who supports her mother and two young brothers on her salary, accepts a date from wealthy Reid. Grace breaks off their relationship and quits her job after her mother suffers a stroke. Grace refuses to have her mother become a charity patient at the “welfare hospital.” She also turns down gifts from the local woman’s group chaired by Reid’s mother. Grace later gets a job as a waitress in a diner and runs into Reid. Reid’s mother says her group doesn’t offer charity, just a helping hand from “neighbors.” Reid and Grace reconcile.

Betty finally gives her husband an ultimatum, threatening to leave him if he doesn’t fire Valerie. The problem is resolved when Valerie quits; she loves Leslie but knows he only cares for his wife.
