   By Johnny L. Wilson
This issue marks the first appearance of "The Heap," a Swamp Thing-style character well before Swamp Thing appeared in DC Comics. I like the way this title intermixes stories with a fantastic bent of incredible inventions and near-impossible derring-do with more standard war stories. In commenting on #2, I said that the art didn't intend to offer realistic drawings of planes. I'm wrong in that this one has a page of WWII fighters (P-38, P-39, and P-40, respectively). Those drawings offered nice views of the planes for the medium.

SynopsisOne of Baron von Richthofen's fighter aces, Baron von Emmelmann, is shot down, his body being thrown into a swamp, where it merges with vegetation. Over a long period of time, from that swamp arises a being neither animal nor human: The Heap. In 1942, with the Nazis bringing their viciousness and cruelty to the land near the swamp, the Heap inadvertantly aides the SkyWolf and his comrades against the Nazi horde.
