Dixie's uncanny likeness to Louise Brooks -who interestingly like Dixie's character was once a Showgirl -is definitely part of her appeal to me. And I dig the cartoon's style and retro-ness, it's too much!

I agree, Ptero. Even after she let her hair grow Dixie resembled Louise Brooks. She was a dead ringer for Brooks--bobbed hair and all--in Striebel's illustrations for her debut story, "Showgirl in Hollywood," in Liberty magazine. Striebel was a very talented artist. The strip's art standard was always high. However the stories strike me as kind of dull. I've always wanted to see Striebel's and McEvoy's earlier strip, "Showgirl." It also starred Brooks. Lambiek quotes Striebel's granddaughter as saying the strip was "too risque for its time." Unfortunately all I've ever found online are a couple of images so small you can't see much of anything.
