This book shows rather casually what good pen-and-ink artists the Brits were. I don't know how important the School Friends Annual was to illustrators in the UK in 1953. But they performed like it was a major graphic showcase. The art is a little restrained (typically British) and the hatching somewhat prolix, but the drawing is more than satisfactory. Very solid, very good commercial art.

Paw Broon has already posted the Silent Three story separately, but I'm happy to be able to see the entire annual. I agree with Fanboy1134: the standard of art in these books was quite high.
