SynopsisJulia tries to find “glamour” work but eventually winds up penniless. She’s hired as an aide in an “old folks’ home” but considers it a “stop gap” job. Julia becomes frustrated by the work although she falls in love with her boss Ralph. One day she leaves without permission to apply for another job and a fire breaks out in the home. Although no one is injured, Ralph realizes Julia doesn’t share his passion for the job and fires her. Julia repents; she accepts an offer to live with the elderly Mallards and care for them. Ralph, seeing Julia has changed, comes back to her.

Virginia submits Carl’s plans for a new bridge, ignoring his warning that “a few flaws” still exist, and bypasses the approval process. The bridge is built and collapses, injuring Carl and another man. Carl is about to be indicted for criminal negligence but Virginia confesses and is sent to prison. When she is released, she sees a new bridge has been built, based on Carl’s revised plans. Carl and Virginia reconcile.

That night, Les actively throws Enid and Jim together, and he repeats this later. Enid and Jim begin to see each other, but she learns she’s just “another pretty blond to add to his collection.” Les offers to help Enid some more, but she says she doesn’t want Jim now. Les admits this was his plan the whole time: he and Enid are in love.
