SynopsisLaurie is engaged to Hal, but he’s financially “sensible” and doesn’t want to spend money on an engagement ring for her. Laurie, ashamed she has no ring, meets Steve, who is selling one because girlfriend Ruth dumped him. He offers Laurie a deal if she’ll date him to make Ruth jealous; Laurie agrees but Ruth doesn’t care. Laurie buys the ring anyway. Hal is angry that Laurie spent $200 on “nonsense” and says “if I marry you, you’ll throw my money away!” They break up. Steve appears and says he lied about Ruth just to spend time with Laurie. Laurie and Steve have “a wonderful future ahead.”

SynopsisBeth and her friend Sue are both “plainjanes” without boyfriends. Beth meets Phil at a dance and they begin to date, but she insists that he bring a friend for Sue. Eventually Phil “run[s] out of dates” for Sue and says he wants to see Beth alone. When Beth objects, they break up. Sue later tells Beth that she’s found a boyfriend of her own and didn’t want Beth “tagging along” on their dates. Sue calls Phil and explains, and he and Beth get back together.

She does, and they fall in love. They get married and Tom becomes a football coach.

SynopsisNurse Ruth and Dr. Ralph plan to be married soon, but he is distracted by wealthy heiress Ilene, a patient in the hospital where they work. Ralph says Ilene just wants to help him set up a private practice, but Ruth disagrees; she knows Ilene is out to marry him. When medical personnel are asked to volunteer at a dangerous tunnel cave-in site, Ilene urges Ralph not to go. Ruth responds and Ralph also eventually shows up; his dedication to his profession was too great. He also says he loves only Ruth.
