Jerry finally breaks up with her because of her “money-mad mania” and leaves. Business also falls off due to Alice’s bad business decisions. Alice realises “how stupid and wrong I was!” and changes the way she runs the store. Business picks up again; Jerry returns and reconciles with a contrite Alice.

Tom quits and Margot’s fiancé Ralph is hired in his place. Margot then pretends the check just arrived, only to learn a disheartened Prof. Furey has just sold the rights for $300! Ralph and Furey discover Margot's perfidy; Ralph breaks up with her. Margot convinces the purchasers of the invention to hire Furey, Tom and Ralph. She’s left alone because “I only cheated myself in the end.”
