Dorie treats Dave like an older brother, but Lil gets jealous of her sister. Dave says Lil is “anxious, even possessive,” and he and Dorie have to dispel her fears. Dorie pretends to have romantic problems of her own, and this causes Lil to become the protective older sister once more.

She later explains to Earl that she is engaged to David, who was blinded in the war and has been “in a veteran’s hospital so long!” David arrives for a visit and tells Grace he’s in love with a nurse from the hospital, so he frees Grace to marry Earl.
