Back in '66 after a spinner rack find of #79 and a "new" ( to me) Ditko drawn comic book, Charlton's CAPTAIN ATOM became a must-buy for me. Unfortunately for me, I became a bit put off when after being smitten by this "new" (to me) character, Ditko switched out the Captain's old costume for this " new" version. Ironically, not at all impressed with a hand-me-down issue of Charlton's BLUE BEETLE #1 in 1964, I was quite pleased with this"new" Blue Beetle co-feature and that character kept me buying the comic until I ultimately appreciated the "New" Captain Atom.

Captain Atom has had at least 4 costumes, probably the first was the most striking. The current DC costume is the absolute worst, really dull. DC seem to never have had any idea what to do with the character. Alan Moore's version, Dr Manhattan from Watchmen, has so far been the most interesting take on the character. At that same chronological time, I was a huge fan of DR Solar - as he was originally portrayed, before he was given a costume. I was also never impressed with what Jim Shooter and Valiant did with that character.
