I have some U.K. comics that could stand to be uploaded.

However, before I make any more enquiries on the subject, I should like to ascertain as to whether any of the material therein is in the Public Domain.  I strongly suspect that some of it is not, as it is from American sources.

I have a number of issues of "Lion", "Lion and Champion", "Valiant", "Smash!", "TV Tornado" and "Vulcan".  The issues of all but the latter are from the 1965-69 period, while the "Vulcan" issues are from the 1970's (but include some reprints from titles that had appeared in earlier comic papers.)

I suspect that the "TV Tornado" issues may not be in the Public Domain.  And there are strips in "Smash!" which are clearly of American origin, including the "Batman" syndicated newspaper strip of the day.  Surely that is protected under the copyright laws.

If it turns out that all or parts of the issues--and I'll send a list upon request--are, in fact, in the public domain, I'd be happy to upload them, if possible, to CB+. I might have to find someone else around these parts who can do it.  I only have a simple desktop, and probably do not have the wherewithal to do the uploads myself.  I've ever uploaded a thing to any such library.

just hold tight awhile on those, our two Brit admins are kinda indisposed at the moment (one is on Holiday and the other has been having computer troubles)

I can tell you that Batman will be a no-go

and you'll note that except for a couple of very rare exceptions we don't carry any comics from the 1970's and later.

I am afraid that they are too late. Certainly nothing after 1959 and I am really more comfortable with before 1950! Best regards Mark

I think we'd all like more SBL.  But another member hasbeen uploading them so worthwhile checking what we already have and posting missing issues you have before uploading. As for Union Jack, the more the merrier ;D  There are some excellent detective yarns un UJ, incl.  Waldo the Wonder Man and Zenith.  Interestingly, Dixon Hawke had a recurring character in his stories, Marko, the Miracle Man - not sure who plnched which from whom.
Anyone have Dixon Hawke libraries?

Hello Paw
Waldo the Wonder Man and Marko the Miracle Man? Never heard of them. Any info you can give me on these two? Plus Zenith? Is this the "Golden Age" version that resurfaced some years ago in the Zenith mini series? Can you unconfuse me please. The information would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance my friend.

Kindly

Richard

Hey Richard, didn't mean to confuse you so some unconfusing on the way!
According to some sources, Marko was a copy of Waldo.  Waldo was a recurring villain in many Sexton Blake stories both in UJ and Detective Weekly, published by AP.  Marko was a recurring villain in Dixon Hawke Library, a pocket digest paperback, smaller than Sexton Blake Library, published by DC Thomson and they are seriously hard to find and expensive when you do.
Waldo eventually reformed and became something of a hero and, I think, head of Scotland Yard.  But I could be havering here.  The late, much missed Russell Aiken was the expert in this stuff, so I've now no-one to ask.
By the way, the DH material we have on site has no Marko stories so anyone with them, we'd love them.
