Hi There Folks,

I'm Holding back activating all Non-Fawcett uploads until Sunday.  You may have noticed we started the June 2017 Fawcett Fridays event yesterday. Activating your flood of uploads would bury the Fawcett pieces and knock them off the front page of recent uploads and we would like to keep them on the front page for at least a day after being posted on friday. For the rest of June 2017,please refrain from uploading books on Friday to Saturday.

Thanks,

Krac

WHIZ BANG WEDNESDAYS!
« Reply #4 on: June 07, 2017, 02:52:20 PM »

as part of the Fawcett Fridays event we and DCM are partnering on, we are also having "Whiz Bang Wednesdays" when we will post some issues of Capt Billy's Whiz Bang that were not previously uploaded to CB+/DCM.

1st up this week are:

- Capt. Billy's Whiz Bang v03 #03 (1922-06)
- Capt. Billy's Whiz Bang v02 #17 (1921-02)

Capt Billy's Whiz Bang did not exist in a vacuum, there were other similar mags being published across the country. In addition to The Quirt which posted last Friday https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=68441 ,there were also Gloom, Hot Dog, Cap'n Joey's Jazza Ka Jazza and Joy Book, to name a few.

In an effort to add more BANG! to Whiz Bang Wednesday here are a couple examples of these publications:

Gloom: The Devils Book No 2, published in Los Angeles in 1922  https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=68505

Cap'n Joey's Jazza Ka Jazza Vol 01 No 4, published in New York City in 1922 https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=68506

a note from Yoc:
But remember - these are from a time when America was a different place with different sensibilities.
These are not politically correct in any way and might be offensive to some of our members.
And these were Not made for children.

ADMIN NOTE: we have scoured the internet for the available issues of Capt Billy and rest assured that they will be uploaded "when the time is right". So if you want to "help" and upload some, please check with me or Yoc before you do so.

here is Yoc's post over at DCM:

FAWCETT FRIDAYS IN JUNE Week 2
« Reply #6 on: June 10, 2017, 05:25:18 AM »

A late entry:

Western Hero 89 edited (which entailed extensive repairs) by Krac from a raw Narfstar scan that had been languishing in the Fawcett section since 2014.

Whiz Bang Wednesday #2
« Reply #7 on: June 14, 2017, 05:01:24 PM »

A couple more issues of Capt. Billy's Whiz Bang

Capt. Billy's Whiz Bang v02 #22 (1921-07)
Capt. Billy's Whiz Bang V02 #24 (1921-09)

And another version of Whiz Comics 142

in addition to the two Capt. Billy issues, another couple Whiz Bang clones have been dredged up from the far-far past. Both from Jack Dinsmore's Merit Publishing in Cleveland, OH:  Joy Book v01 02 & Hot Dog v01 11 , both from 1922.

And as we stated last week:  These publications were published over 90 years ago and by modern sensibilities some content is likely offensive to some members.

WHIZ BANG Wednesday IV (The Final Chapter)
« Reply #11 on: June 28, 2017, 05:52:07 PM »

So this this will our final Whiz Bang Wednesday (part of the June 2017 Fawcett focus)

we have on tap:

Capt. Billy's Whiz Bang v01 #11 (1920-08)
Capt. Billy's Whiz Bang v02 #16 (1921-01)

additionally:

We have dug up some more Capt Billy clones:

in this case, six more issues of Hot Dog from 1922-1923, Published by Jack Dinsmore's Merit Publishing out of Cleveland, OH

Hot Dog v01 04  https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=68911
Hot Dog v01 07  https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=68909
Hot Dog v01 09  https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=68919
Hot Dog v02 02  https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=68920
Hot Dog v02 03  https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=68908
Hot Dog v02 09  https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=68907

And to further explore periodicals of the early 1920s I am suggesting taking a look at The Smart Set https://comicbookplus.com/?cid=3316  The Smart Set  was more "high brow" than the Whiz Bangs and their clones, but during the that time period it shared the same cultural attitude. Taking a look at this sampling of covers, it is not hard to picture issues of both The Smart Set & Capt. Billy's Whiz Bang sitting on the same coffee table of the early 1920s.

I realise that most members of this website like and collect realistic human characters much more than funny animal comics, but I hope you will consider uploading the "Fawcett's Funny Animals" tssues I am missing (Numbers 16, 19, 21, 41, 43, and 44), as well as "Hoppy, The Marvel Bunny" (Numbers 4, 5. 7,  10, and 12), "Animal Fair" (Numbers 2 and 10), "Comic Comics" Number 3, and "George Pal's Puppetoons" (Numbers 9 and 10).

Hoppy the Marvel Bunny, no issues are in the Public domain, so can't be hosted here.
Fawcett's Funny Animals 41, 43 and 44 are not in the public domain and can't be hosted here

For the others, there is no scan,
Animal Fair 2 and 10 were acquired by a scanner, who has since left the hobby, leaving them unscanned. Same for Comics Comics 3. Ditto this for George Pal Puppetoons 9
No source exist for the Fawcett Funny Animals 16, 19, 21, or Puppettoons 10.
