At the weekend I picked up the 6 issue Marvel title, "Uncanny Avengers", mainly as the art on some of them was by John Cassaday. Looking forward to a good read, I set out on the journey. The comics look really good - I have to admit to being a Cassaday fan - but I quickly became confused. I haven't followed the Marvel universe for quite a few years now and I learnt that Xavier was pan bread, that Wanda had done bad stuff, that the Red Skull had cut out Xavier's brain and grafted it to his own, that lots of stuff had happened and Havok was leading the Avengers, that.......................
At which point my patience gave out and my brain started to fry.
I read the first 2 issues, skimmed the 3rd., flicked through the 4th. then went to the last page of #6. After which I shoved them in a bag to take to a friend I'm meeting on Friday. He can do what he likes with them as long as they don't come anywhere near me ever again. What a disappointing experience, despite lovely drawings and a couple of good fight sequences. Just enforces my belief that most modern comics from the big 2 aren't for me.
As opposed to the Big Finish collection of Steed and Mrs. Peel stories collected from Diana which I bought at a recent con, and which is an absolute delight. Living in the past? Moi?
