That's amusing. I wonder how that defense would hold up to Dr. Wertham and the Senate subcomittee. "Well, I began searching for porn and it led to comic books." In my online wanderings, it's gone both ways ... porn to comics and vice versa.  :)

Just sorta randomly found and devoured The Horror! The Horror: Comic Books the Government Didn't Want You to Read, by Jim Trombetta, with an intro by R.L. Stine (2010), and well... I woke up here the next day. Greetings, all!

I was on tumblr and a woman who is Marvel fan there mentioned this site as a place to learn more about the golden age of comics, so I thought I'd check it out. My knowledge of comics is pretty spotty, but I've always been intrigued by the style of earlier comics.

Welcome.  You certainly won't struggle to find G. A. comics here but where to start? We all have different tastes and I'd suggest you have a look at The Spirit sections or Quality Comics.  Let us know if you have any questions.

Hi,  Found you by a google search.  I wondered if some old comics might be online,  and this site really looked interesting because you post only PD items.   I'm really more of a Silver Age fan than GA,  mostly because I remember the Silver Age,  and I have found several stories here that I remember reading as a kid,  most notably, so far,  The Demon of the Winds in "Forbidden Worlds,"  83, Oct 59.  I've looked at a lot of the other things, too, pre-code, and GA comics.  Surprising how good some of the stories are, and by the same token,  how bad some stories are,  but with  good girl art,  I doubt that anyone noticed the latter.  Good to be here,  and looking forward much browsing and reading pleasure.

I was doing research for an article I am writing on female Old West comic book characters when I came across this site. Looks like a real treasure trove for freelance writers of comic book characters/history! As for me, I am 50 years old, female, been reading comic books all my life, and yes still collect them at my age: favorites are DC Shazam! Captain Marvel, and Starfire. Also love looking at vintage/antique comics too.
