A new section in UK Comic Books today.  Barrett Publishing Company, London, produced The Bumper Comic Book, a young persons comic, possibly in the 1940's.  There were 16 issues and, thanks to Harmsworth, we have 2 on the site.  Very little information is available for this company and title, so all help will be most welcome:-
http://comicbookplus.com/?cid=3182

Also, 2 issues of The Joker - #130 and 375 from 1930 and 1935, respectively -  a British anthology humour strip and prose thriller comic.  hoover scanned these 2 issues.  both issues have amazing, busy, good quality humour strips in the middle pages and are well worth a look.  Guaranteed to raise a smile. :-

I bought a small pile of slightly pongy, low grade comics at a recent mart and this and yesterday's are a couple of them.

I recently bought a Classics Illustrated copy of Treasure Island from a bargain bin and when I took it out of the B & B the whole house smelled like old cigarette smoke. It was the 1st time I ever sprayed Febreeze on a comic book.

OOOH-errr, missus!  Pongy periodicals are a right oooh-nasty.
This lot weren't just smoky, there was an old foosty aroma too, but at least they were cheap.  I've had them airing at an open window for a couple of weeks - despite the Scottish weather!  They're a bit less whiffy now.

Heroes 4 Sale (yes, named after the comic shop in the movie True Romance) in Vandalia, OH (near Dayton) is the maist foosty comic shop I've been to, and I love it!  Though there is a shop in Alexandria,VA (that I have not visited) that also sells exotic plants along with back-issue comics, I suspect that one may be even mair foosty than Heroes 4 Sale.

I confess to having to look up 'pongy' & 'foosty' I now plan to use them in casual conversation.

Foosty https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/foosty

Pongy  https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/pongy

It's not the comics that make this place great, it is the new words and factoids you pick up in the forums! ;D

Nice one, crash!  You'll be submitting that to their marketing dept., of course? ;)

Isn't Krac sounding more and more Scottish?  And no bad thing.
A number of Scottish words come from French and Dutch.  French was the official language of the Scottish court before we were sold to England. And there was a lot of trade between Scotland and France and Holland.
You might fancy a look at the great Stanley Baxter doing his "language lessons" in his tv show.  Glaswegian at it's most incomprehensible:-

This time a Fawcett missing from our files.  Monte Hale Western #57.  The original is falling to bits and has cellophane on the front cover.  Best I can do with it.  At least I didn't pay much for it.

The first one for a while and it's a compilation of a June Gaynor detective text serial from Girl's Crystal, 1945
http://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=62363
Let's hope this one opens for all who are interested.
The pages were extracted from pdf files found on Friardale, where there are no scanner credits, so, thanks to whoever scanned the issues.

Enjoyed the June Gaynor serial. [Spoiler alert) Considering that Uncle Ned is suspected of being the Grey Falcon. it's sort of strange the Falcon doesn't turn out to be anybody special.

You should find that the Girls' Crystal issues on Friardale have been on this site for years.

Yes they have been but some of the issues used fro the compilation weren't, so I used Friardale.  Actually, you probably noticed that the compilation is missing the first 2 chapters, something I'll rectify shortly.  It was more a test upload for me with this one.   Also, I like the idea of taking complete stories from anthology pubs and letting folk read them without having to wade through a pile of issues at 2 or 3 pages per issue.

After a really quiet time for a couple of reasons, I have started a new section under Spanish comics.  El Vengador del Mundo.  #'s 1,2,3 and 5 are now up.  Plus #10 of Kit-Boy, also in the Spanish section.
I seem to have lost/misplaced my notes for some of these scans, so if anyone can i/d the original scanner, let me know and I'll change the attribution.

Captain Future by Norman Light.  This is a compilation of 2 CF stories, probably from an issue of Spaceman, with an added cover illo from Spaceman #9?  The scans are from old photocopies.
