NARFSTAR's offerings
« on: July 02, 2008, 02:44:22 PM »

Since so many of the regulars have started their own upload thread here is mine.
Look to next week when I am back on DSL to get my previousy mentioned scans as well as LASH Larue #6 from Fawcett. Cover to cover western goodness.  I have had trouble with my Fawcett scans Lash and Soldier because they put the staple so close to the story but tried to make sure I got all the words.

Those close to the story staples certainly complex the scanning procedures,
especially when coupled with panels cockeyed to the tops of the pages.
Add in nonparalell panelsides per the original layout and you have a challenge on your hands. ;)

Could these pesky publishers have designed 'Anti-Scanning' comics as long ago as 60 years ?? :(

Perhaps Marvel might like this secret !!!  :P

I know some here are masters at removing the stapels and scanning but I did not like that method.  "Fortunately" the books were very low grade so I bent and stretched and did not care but a couple pages barely get all the words visible.

A precursor to the CDcopy infringement techniques.

The arts always have an uphill battle

Hi Narfstar.  I'm really enjoying your posts here, especially of late.  I'm one that hopes you'll continue to carefully put 'em up on the scanner and consider retiring the photo method, but HEY, whatever you do, keep 'em comin'.  Everything's appreciated!   And they're your books after all.

I have a request though.  Would you check your Terry & the Pirates #26 please?  My copy when I had one had 36 pages.  When I checked the download here I could only account for 35.  An oversight perhaps?  It's sure nice to see this one again after over 40 years!

Thanks,

Lofty

Bang up being scanned now. Are we nuts or what?  This scanning is a pain.  My nephews scanner was faster and easier.  Sorry for those who do not like pics but for lesser books I will be using digicam.  Pedro 2 from Fox, Penny 4 from Avon, Fugitives from Justice 2 St John will all soon be in my ftp.  Bang up and Sparkman where worth scanning.  BTW What did ya'll think of the Sparkman?

Sparkman was very cool.
I'm sorry to hear you wont be using the scanner full time Narf.
Might I suggest you steal your nephew's scanner?   ;)   They look so much better than fiche or digital camera scans.  Quality over quantity, etc.

Ah well, thanks for the fun books it was a lovely flood!

What the Yocster say goes for me also Jim, better to have a few definitive scans then loads of 'Fotoscans' which will ultimately want redoing by yourself or others in the months/years to come.

Still I'm the last person to look a gift horse in the mouth so at the end of the day it all comes down to what best suits you.

I only ever used a camera on one book, Adventure Comics_040 but that was after i'd just sold it for BIG money and although I still had the book I no longer regarded it as mine and felt that I had no right to risk it on a scanned.

AFAIK no one else has ever scanned that book since then and looking at those photo pages now I wish that I had taken a chance at scanning it after all !

Bang Up is scanned and in my FTP now.  I guess I am one of the few on the other side who prefers quantity to quality.  If in the future I get a better/faster scanner (especially one that would do my fiche of Wham, Superworld, Green Giant, Hyper Mystery, Colosus I have tried every scanner I got around with no luck) I may scan them.  It is just way easier to take the pics now.

I haven't add Bang Up yet Narf.
Frankly it's so large I think it best if it were added in two parts.

I'll look after it but it will take a little while.

If a set of scans is over 100mb then please split it in two before uploading them Narf.
It makes it a bit easier on those folks who are still not on a high-speed connection.

Thanks!

Great work on the BangUp.
Makes me look foreward to the time when the TV will double as the computer monitor and one will be able to sit back at the end of the day in their recliner with a wireless laptop and view large clean scans like that on the 56" screen. ;D

Is that your own book?

No ads?!?  Were they missing?  Are they damaged?  Why would anyone do that to innocent ads?  A comic without ads is like...  like...  like...

A reprint :(

Bang-Up is mine recently acquired.
No Cimm not a reprint.  No ads because unless the ad is something special, it just takes up time and space.  How many pimple poppers do you need to see?
