I think I know why they changed his name to Flip! I feel lucky to have attended the Joe Kubert School, and one of my classmates created a character for one of his assignments that he wanted to name Flick, but our instructor urged him not to, and the reason why became apparent when we posted our assignments at the front of the room for critique. Comic book lettering most often utilizes all capital letters, and when you look at the word FLICK from a distance, it looks like a completely different word most parents would not want their children exposed to! :D

I heard that reasoning for not using "Flick" and it makes sense. I heard the same thing about naming someone "Clint." However this didn't stop Fawcett from creating Clint Curtis. And in the 60s Hawkeye's alter ego was named Clint.
