Clearly, this book's cover was originally drawn for an early 1940s MLJ book containing an Archie story. The girl, looking so very like the early Veronica, may even have been left untouched, while Archie's face has been changed, and Jughead's face replaced by another, and his body made fatter. The letter "S" on the Jughead figure, typical of that character's regular attire, makes it clear that Green Publishing got hold of the original art of an MLJ front cover drawing or inner page splash panel, (probably from a printer's going-out-of-business warehouse sale), and wanted to disguise this issue to avoid being sued for copyright infringement. I can't remember an early 1940s MLJ issue that contained a story with Archie's gang vacationing at a Western dude ranch. I hope some poster here can inform us of from where that story came, or if it was a drawn, but never issued front cover, or story.
