The first Ken Shannon story is penciled by Gene Colan. Certainly SOME Anderson inks, too, on T-Man, Crash. I think it's W.G. Hargis pencils on Inspector Denver. 'Heart of a Hero' is penciled by Alice Kirkpatrick. And Dan Leery appears to have been penciled by Charles Quinlan. Quite an issue!

It was interesting to find Colan on the Ken Shannon "origin." I don't believe he ever worked on the character again

I like the Shannon series, mostly because of very nice Crandall pencils on many stories. I've always wondered why Ken was given the strange Neanderthal-looking face he wore in most of his stories--not  only a huge chin but also an unusually long distance from his nose and mouth. The look isn't in the Colan story, nor in fact in Crandall's first outings. But after a couple more issues there it is. I presume it was Crandall's idea (or his following an editor's guidance). Maybe the idea was to make Shannon look more like a lummox, as his character developed into a slightly dim-witted, half-comical figure.

When I said "The first Ken Shannon story...", Crash, I was anticipating that there might be another one later on in the book. I wasn't trying to pin 105 down as the origin of KS. As for the shape of Shannon's jaw and Reed Crandall - I'm looking at the Police issues and coming up empty-handed with respect to RC. He seems to be ghostly presence so far. In my opinion, Cuidera (whom I REALLY don't know except by a process of elimination) is imitating him righteously, without a trace of shame. It seems to be an editorial decision and is part of the "look" of the character, just as T-Man carries the Harry Anderson facial look for quite some time.

As for making Shannon into a lummox, there's my standard retort.... "You READ comics?"
