I am based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

While I unfortunately missed the Toronto Comic Arts Festival (and its free for 2 whole days). I did attend the Comic-Con in Toronto, 24.00!! and currently in comic art class with Ty Templeton, I wanted to share with you an artist in Toronto. It is Tara Tallan, artist and writer of the sci-fi comic Galaxion. Its a good article, sort of discusses the life of a comic artist, and also the importance of having sites promote and protect their works. Most artists I know, do this not to make alot of money, and many do not. However, its a great art form and very important to the comic community.

Have a read of perhaps unknow comic artist in my area. Perhaps their are some artists/creators in your area. Are their any free comic festivals in your area like the one we have in Toronto?

Thanks for the link, Janus - good stuff.  Last time I was in Toronto, I realised I'd missed the TCAF by a couple of days and was a right old grump for a while after.

This one isn't free, but I thought it would be of interest to anyone here or visiting the country.  Plus there's a talk on Bill Ritchie, whose obit. I posted elsewhere.  Besides that, in Scotland we don't now have a lot going on for comics.  There are semi-regular free marts in Glasgow and creators do occasionally show up.  I had a few words with Frank Quitely at one of the marts end of last year and Ken Barr, of Warren and Commando comics note, has been at a number of the antique marts in Glasgow.   (There are a few comics tables there)  There have been a couple in Inverness but the Prestonpans "mart in a pub" seems to have vanished. At one time, comic marts and cons were regular and incredibly popular events here.  No longer.  Sad.

Yes, I had a read of your article paw broon...I wish I had this job...

"Since 2007 the University of Dundee has hosted an annual comics conference organised by Dr Chris Murray, a researcher in comics.."

I like the idea how they are promoting comics, and also teaching other's how they are made...good stuff...
