Wow. No subtlety or subconscious suggestion here. This is definitely hit-em-over-the-head advertising of a product I suspect even farm kids couldn't work up a lot of enthusiasm for. Something about the boy and girl in the first story reminds me of Robert Crumb's send-ups of 1950s cartoon children. And isn't that Elsie, the Borden cow, serving the feast in the Dream Castle story?

I thought of Elsie also. I think the shoe store comics were much more enjoyable in their day. But I really enjoyed this book just because it was so different and so blatant. I do not know that we had any Kasco clothing as a kid but we did have flour sack shirts.
