Does no one on this website know why this MLJ series started with # 49. During the 1940s that was usually either because a publication changed its name and lead character, or its format, such as Funny Animal to Jungle Girl, Romance to Funny Animal, or magazine or Pulp novel to Comic Book.

Suzie was published, even under the MLJ and Archie Series banner, by Close-Up, Inc., same as Adventures of The Dover Boys. Were Suzie #s 1-48 issued by Close-Up before that publisher was purchased by MLJ? Was Close-Up operated semi-autonomously within The Archie Group? A hint points that way in that The Dover Boys book has no Archie Series logo on its front cover, nor ANY reference to Archie Publications or copyright in its indicia. It's the only Archie-related book I can recall lacking those characteristics.
