To me this looks like it came out of the Johnstone & Cushing shop. It has that well-drawn advertising style they used in newspaper ad strips.

Well it is credited as being produced by Al Stenzel who was an art director for Johnstone and Cushing so I'd say you've got a good eye for that style.

I must have been blind to miss that credit to Al Stenzel. Of course he'd use old J&C men. I don't remember the details, but someone out there wrote about how Stenzel ran his own sponsored comics shop after J&C got out of the business, taking over many of their clients (like "Boys' Life").
