My LCS owner puts back the few books I request. I have church Saturday mornings and do not want to miss the wants I want.

I'd love to get my hands on a Bongo FCBD comic (Simpsons, Futurama, or whatever)... but chances are nil that that would ever happen.  :(

The one we stopped at had very little to offer. I'm sure the other stores in town would have had a slightly better selection. By any chance, did your store have the Elric book? I was hoping to find a copy of that.

My LCS limited the free comics to one for anyone just showing up or to five for anyone making a purchase.

My five were-

Fantagraphic's Mickey Mouse which reprinted a 1935 Gottfredson MM daily sequence.

Drawn and Quarterly's John Stanley collection which had a sampling of Stanley's various works including Nancy, Thirteen (Going on Eighteen), Choo Choo Charlie and Tubby.

Bongo 2011

Bongo 2007 which I missed several years back- so was lucky they found some in their back stock to make available this year.

Archie's Pep Comics-I snagged the Archie giveaway mainly because I didn't see Dark Horse's free comic.

It was pretty crowded but no where near as bad as last year.  The owner said things were probably slower due to the high cost of gasoline and the general sluggish economy.

Had some excitement just as I was checking out when the owner ran in from out back, where everyone parks, and yelled for his wife to call 911.  A bunch of oleanders at the end of the alley had caught on fire and was blazing away.  I got out a minute or two later and the fire had spread up a telephone pole (with transformer boxes on it) and some of the electrical lines were on fire.  I quickly got out of the area by the other end of the alley just ahead of the fire department pulling in to fight the conflagration.  It must have been very hot for them in their fire gear, as the temperature was already up to 90 degrees by noon when I got to the comic store.

Best

Joe

Wow Joe I never had a visit that exciting to my LCS. My LCS goes gold every year. He will put back what I ask so I only ask for what I really want. I did pick up the Smurfs, D&D, and Bongo that he had left. Got Civil War, Scarlet Scorpion and Adam West that he put back for me.

Lucky sods.  I don't even know if my lcs gets any of this stuff. It's a tiny shop.  I'll take a bus up there and see for myself what he has, or had.

I so wanted the Pep Comics.  :(

My LCS didn't have that one. I got the Young Justice/Brave and the Bold Sampler. And the Popeye one (E.C. Segar's by Fantagraphics). We were limited to two each. I took my little niece and nephew (who both also wanted a Pep Comics since their Dad has so many Archie comics). One grabbed a Richie Rich/Kung-Fu Panda comic and the other grabbed the Green Lantern one (I don't know why they only grabbed one each they were running around pointing out the statuettes behind the counter.

I should be able to grab a copy of Pep the next time I'm in the store. I'll let you know.

Thank you, Geo.  ;D
Digital is nice, too.

Oh, MrsCharlie picked up the Worlds of Aspen 2011. It has like a checklist of all the books they are coming out with this year. The art really reminds me of the early stuff coming out of Image comics, and even Gen 13.

In case anyone didn't get the word, it's Free Comic Day tomorrow! Doesn't appear to be quite so many offerings this year, but the price is right! A great day to hobnob with fellow collectors and support your LCS! Cheers, Bowers

Our local library was a venue for Free Comic Book Day and it was packed.  There was a queue at 10 am when they opened.  Helped by the library having a sell off of old G.N.'s and tpb's dirt cheap.  I picked Archie digest; Future's End; Vwars.
There was an odd moment when a big bloke in a Marvel t-shirt wandered in and had a look at the table.  He took nothing and started to wander off saying something like, hmphh, nae Marvels, and shaking his head.
Apart from that it was a good morning, well supported by local people and especially good to see parents bringing in their kids and picking up comics for them.

As I mentioned before, not as many choices this year. I did pick up a "Buck Rogers" featuring some reprinted strips and a taste of Chaykin's newer stuff as well as a Don Rosa "Uncle Scrooge" and a few others for the granddaughters. Lots of fun with people in costumes - my youngest granddaughter enjoyed being stalked by a Stone Angel. Don't blink! Cheers, Bowers

My LCS was packed when I got there yesterday afternoon,  It was wall to wall people and, of course, it was also our first 100 degree day of the year!  The shop's poor AC unit was struggling valiantly to keep it cool inside but was only having limited luck.

Things had been pretty well picked over by the time I got there and I only snagged 2 freebies this year- Fantagraphics Don Rosa Uncle Scrooge/Donald Duck book and Bongo Comics Free-For-All!

There were a number of people in costume.  The one that most impressed me was the Golden Age Sandman (gas mask version) which is one you don't see that often.

Best

Joe

My local comic shop was supposed to be part of the Free Comic Book Day France (which is the same as in the US, except with a couple of titles exclusively produced by French publishers - one Spider-Man and one with various stories from Dark Horse). It was really no use running to it, alas, because the only one they'd got was the Spider-Man from Panini Comics - and only the "subscribers" of the Spider-Man magazine could have it.

So disappointing. I hope my shop will really be part of the next event, which is "Les 48h de la BD", an French equivalent when French publishers are giving away some of their own production. 8 titles only (all French and Belgian except for the French TPB of Batman Gates Of Gotham), but hardcovered ones: http://www.48hbd.com/100000-bd-offertes.html
