Title: Home page thumbnails
Post by: narfstar on November 02, 2008, 01:38:02 AM
What are the opinions on the home page thumbnails? I would like each category to have the thumbnail of the last uploaded comic in that category. The problem with that is that all covers are not created equal. I have changed some but am reluctant to change the great Cat-man cover for Sparkling Stars 11 for Holyoke. But I think keeping the home page dynamic is a plus. Get some thoughts here on should I change things like Catman to Sparkling Stars or keep up the "prettier covers"?

There always might be the possibility of having dynamic cover thumbnails for each category. So we have a list of thumbnails and each refresh of page would load a new one.

Well, I'm happy to keep neat covers up in favor of duller ones like the Sparkling Stars you mention.  But I would like to change them all to books we actually have on the site, unless we have zero books in a specific sub-category.  I've had a few cases where I go "rats, we don't have that here despite the picture?"  (It Rhymes With Lust being the most obvious case.)

I did not note that we were missing that book. I agree that if we do not have the book we should not have the thumbnail up. I will change out Lust.

If Serj can figure out a script to automatically switch cover that sound fine by me.
Otherwise I leave it in your hands guys.

Well l usually went for either the most famous publication for that publisher i.e. It rhymes with Lust. Or l went for whatever l thought was the best looking cover. l do not mind what we have or how often it changes, but l would prefer them to not be out of focus and fuzzy, it might only be a thumbnail but its still nice to be actually able to see a bit of detail.

This may be a minor point, but I like consistent images as it makes it much easier for me to find the company quickly.  I know Quality has that Crack Comic for example without reading.

Now that Jon mentions it I do the same thing.  :)
