Title: Re: Joe Palooka 3

These WWII Joe Palooka comic books are a lesson in U.S. history. Ham Fisher not only popularized enlistment and the draft but skillfully used anti-Axis propaganda in his story lines — something permissible in wartime. Other artists did the same, but Fisher did it with finesse. Joe set a good example for youth without being goody goody or condescending. I have fond memories of reading later comics of Fisher's when I was a boy, as well as in the papers. Humphrey was delightful, as well as Little Max, the mute shoeshine boy with a heart of gold. My sincerest thanks to Comic Book +.
