Title: Gorgo?
Post by: wolfboy_54 on June 23, 2009, 06:11:45 PM
I don't know if Charlton Comics' Gorgo is a possibility or not. Time-wise, it fits more properly in The Silver Age. If that is not  problem, I think it is fair game. Not only should the Charlton Comics of that period be without a copyright holder, but the movie itself that these comics were licensed from has been in the public domain for many years. Similarly, I wonder about Charlton's Reptisaurus. While the first two issues (a licensed tie-in with American-International's Reptilicus) would not be in public domain, after that Charlton changed the dragon's appearance and its name to Reptisaurus.

Other opinions?

Gorgo was produced in the Sixties and thus falls outside the acceptable time range.  Sorry.

Yeah, Charlton's copyright statements are rarely valid (the ASCAP-derived International Copyright gibberish), so with the movie in the public domain, I count the books there, too.  But they're not "Golden Age," by any stretch of the imagination, so they need to live elsewhere.

Gorgo 2-5, 11-18, 20,23

Reptisaurus 4,7,special

These already have scans out there. If you have anything else by all means scan it for posting elsewhere even if not here.

All of Gorgo, Konga and Reptilicus/Reptisaurus have been scanned and posted to ABPC.

I am sorry but I am not assuming a comic series might be in the public domain due to some hoped for clerical error, there are at least 3 Gorgo movies that have renewals and there would be no record of the comics even if they were not public domain.
