I thought there may be some new folks not sure how to read CBR or CBZ files or maybe they want to try different readers.
I've used 3 myself.
CDisplayEx http://sourceforge.net/projects/cdisplayex/ (http://sourceforge.net/projects/cdisplayex/) This is a good and simple one.
ComicRack http://comicrack.cyolito.com/ (http://comicrack.cyolito.com/) This one has a lot of bells and whistles. I'm still learning how to use it. The main downside is help seems to take forever to get back to you.
Manga Reader Tool http://www.mydailymanga.com/2008/06/21/manga-reading-tool/ (http://www.mydailymanga.com/2008/06/21/manga-reading-tool/) I don't read Manga at all but this was suggested and works pretty well.

I currently use cddisplay, but I'm up for trying other things.
-
I'm going to try out ComicRack today, it looks pretty spiffy
-
It's pretty good but can be confusing. It's for people who want all their books organized all sorts of ways.
-
Yea true sometimes I just want the basics for a quick read
-
Cdisplayex is perfect for that.
-
CDisplay is the one I use.
-
I like ComicRack and the Manga Reader Tool because they have the page turn effect. I don't know why, I just think it's neat. I just found on CDisplay that if you choose to open files, you get thumbnails of all the covers.
-
Does anyone use Kindle or Nook or any other e-readers? I'm curious how they are. I wonder about a comic book e-reader that tries simulate the pages and feel of an actual comic book.
-
Currently CDisplay, but I really need to try some others out.
-
CDisplay. Ive tryed others. But they just seem more complicated and not a whole lot better.
-
I use CDisplay, also. If all you want to do is page through a comic and read it, I don't know why you'd need another program.
What features do these other programs have that CDisplay is lacking?
-
I have always used CDisplay as well. Works great!!! Just recently realized you can cycle through the pages by using the scroll wheel on your mouse. Up until then, I always used the space bar and arrow keys. :-[ I have a buddy who is thinking about buying a MAC. Anybody know if CDisplay works on MACs? If not, can anybody recommend a good reader?
-
Theres only one thing that Cdisplay dosnt do which i would like is a explorer with thumbnails. But there are other programs that can do that. One is P3DO Explorer (http://www.senosoft.com/ (http://www.senosoft.com/)) which is freeware. Or you could just use Comic Rack. But i find this with CDisplay work best for me.

Friends don't let friends buy Macs.
I'm still trying to talk him out of it, but I think he's turned to the dark side..... and there is no turning him back.
-
Never used a Mac but some people swear by them. I'm fine with my PC.
Swatpup, in CdisplayEx, once you start the program you can right click and load files. It shows thumbnails of all the files. When I had XP, once I associated all my .cbz and .cbr files with CdisplayEx, it showed all the files as thumbnails. Windows 7 doesn't.

Guess everbody has their own personal preferences. PC vs. MAC.... Star Wars vs. Star Trek.... Ginger vs. MaryAnn.... ;D
-
Thanks Astaldo711, ill look into it. As far as Mac's go. Ive never understood the whole fascination with mac products. Im mean i own a sandsa instead of a ipod.
P.s. no offence mac users.
-
I've nothing against Macs per se, I just never used one so I'd be completely lost. I'm still getting used to Windows 7.
-
Hmm... How did this shift from a discussion of which comic reader we use to a flamey referendum on apple vs. windows? (I use a mac at home specifically because I use one at work in the art department. It's what I'm used to, no more no less. I know how to use a windows machine and could flip to one in a heartbeat if the price is right or if there was any real reason to. IMO, the whole apple vs. windows controversy is fake, fanned by people who have nothing better to do.)
Anyway, to answer your question, I use Comical on a mac. The only complaint I have about it is that it is slightly unstable, and will crash a time or two per session, with large files especially. The upside of that is that it's a very lightweight application and reopens after it crashes in just a second or two. The thing I like about it is that there's no floating watermark on the pages like there is with some readers I've seen. And it has nice features, like "view pages as a spread", which is like having the comic right there when you have a 24" monitor.

I've never been a Mac fan. Love my PC.
-
Okay, let's not have this turn into a Mac vs. PC thread. They both have pros and cons.
-
*Smack* aaarrrggghh!! >:(
-
Anybdoy ever try Irfanview? Came across it when googling "free image viewer". For those who have tried it...pros? cons?
-
This thread is so PC.
:o
-
So what's the problem, MAC?
-
Okay, okay this is getting too corny even for me.
Commodore 64!
-
Ok, I'm derailing this thread back on topic! This is an internet first, so bear with me people! ;D
I use CDisplay.I've tried most of the alternatives, but I'm just a lazy bum and it's simplicity keeps me enslaved. :)

I love the way CDisplay 'catches' at the end of each page when you scroll with the mousewheel, so you need five extra 'wheel clicks' to get to the next page. I also like that it uses the entire screen (no borders).
I don't like the way it scrolls double-pages. I find myself backing up and re-scrolling the page repeatedly to see the whole thing. I'm not sure of a better way to handle it though, since reducing the size makes them unreadable to me.

I find I always go back to CdisplayEx. I've tried others but it works fine for me. As the saying goes; K.I.S.S.
