Well spotted! My first thought tho, 'Ouch that would have hurt' and - technically he would have landed in the backseat or missed the car altogether.
But hey, who lets reality get in the way of a good comic book story! Or a great panel.
I remember back in the 70's the Comics Journal stirred up a controversy re swiping, mostly involving Keith Giffen, who did it a lot in the early stages of his Career. To me its part of how an artist learns - on the way to developing his or her own style. With someone like Wood, he would have filed it away in his head for future reference.
