Title: Augmented Reality
Post by: Andrew999 on November 19, 2020, 09:18:25 AM
Went down a rabbit hole yesterday.

Started reading an article about augmented reality. It was interesting but nothing new - this particular article was saying that within five years, we would be wearing spex with a built-in microchip linked to the cloud that would broadcast data onto a virtual screen about a metre in front of our eyes.

So, for example, you might be in shop, thinking of buying some pickles. You say aloud, 'Is this a good price?' and the screen says - you can buy this cheaper in Lidl - or something of the sort.

But then I surfed to another article that said this may be how it starts - but like other forms of technology, within a couple of years it will be all about entertainment - blended reality

So, for example, you might be walking down the street and your eyes will see the real people walking by but perhaps in the distance you will see a masked hero climbing a wall or some such - or a goblin poking its head above a trash can. Games might then emerge where you have to physically chase a virtual villain through the streets (in my case, slowly chase - more of a casual amble)

What do we think about that - and what other scenarios might emerge?

Seems like nightmare city, Arizona to me. So, I'm waiting for the #38 and, oh, what's this? The bus? Not sure.  Oh no, it's the Arrowcar, or, can't be, can it? It's The Q-Bikes hurtling towards me.
No. I'll stick to books and comics, ta very much.

It seems that Don Christensen (the comic book story writer-NOT artist/writer, Don R. Christensen) introduced the idea of walking down the street and watching forms of media, rather than what was going on in the real World, MANY years ago! Check this out:
