Title: IMPORTANT MESSAGE: PUBLIC DOMAIN / PERMISSION ONLY COMICS UPLOADED
Post by: Janus Wolf on May 16, 2010, 08:00:11 AM
I just wanted everyone to have a look at the link below. Many of you may have heard of HTMLcomics.com. It was probably the largest scanning website around. I just wanted to take this time out to mention to everyone from the moderators, uploaders that only Public domain comics are permitted here, or if we have the author/creators permission. Everyone is doing a great job, its just the closing of HTMLcomics.com has been fairly recent and this is to show that many sites are being watched.

For the everyone else I encourge you to be apart of public domain legal research group, I will have when the new site is up. Again, no need to be apart of it, its just for people who are interested in the work that we are doing here.

Cheers,

Janus

I removed some of the SA books that had copyright notices. They are probably fine but would rather have them checked out after what happened to html. I think a cease and desist would always be first. I do not think Html's suit included any of the copyright holders for Charlton or ACG

Thanks Narfstar, the exciting thing about this for all of us, (and myself, since I have a law background as well) is the importance to have a group of us look at a comic for public domain purposes, really research and have the best possible info before uploading. Of course we are doing a great job as is. Its just something I wanted to beef up in the future.

I think we are in good shape of course. As long as we do our research, and give reasons why its in the public domain we are fine. If after our research their is something we missed, yes...a cease and desist order should follow, and of course we will take down the file.

I just wanted to reaffirm, that as this site moves forward, and we start testing the beta site out in June, 2010 (next month). We will be very pro artist/creator and give artists/creators the opportunity to promote themselves. We will always be public domain, and always respectful to creators and artists and help them as much as possible promote their works here, should there works be copyrighted. We have already gained permission from one source to do so (fanzine).

I have seen in the past torrent links to pd books, however, I have also noticed that these links promoted by others also had copyrighted works as well as you dig a little deeper.

We have to protect the artists/creators and uphold the law. I am sorry but I do not feel comfortable with torrent links, or sites that promote torrents on this site. We are doing a great job here, and do not need to even slightly go down the road of promoting other places on the net that may lead to infringing material.

When I have time, or if anyone sees any links on this board, please delete them, or advise me asap.
