Title: It's Just Movies!
Post by: boox909 on May 22, 2010, 10:37:51 PM
http://itsjustmovies.com/

Today I had the pleasure of meeting the founder of Itsjustmovies.com -- who shared with myself and other comics geeks a few exclusive films, such as The Legacy, a Supermanish template that could become the next Supes film -- the film recently showed at the Cannes Film Festival

We also viewed what I think will be one of the next upcoming major Sci-Fi/SF franchises -- BURDEN (http://www.burdenthemovie.com).

Itsjustmovies.com has extensive info on upcoming comic book related films, thus it serves as a great resource for many of us.

Check the site out sometime!   ;D

Looks like a neat movie but if real, they are just asking to be sued out of existence. Everything about it screams Superman, it goes way beyond just using a Superman arche-type to blatant copying.

I doubt it will get sued.. I have seen tons of Supermen references around, as long as they don't copy the symbol or the costume, it's fine.

You are aware, I assume, of the Turkish movies, in the 60's & 70's, which blatantly used Superman, Spy Smasher, Cap. America, Santo, a criminal Spiderman, a Superman/Batman character with The Phantoms trunks and a Shazam effect, Tarzan, Fantomas and more?  There was also a series of Killing films, based on the European villain photo comics,  but these might have been licensed.   Not to forget the Mexican Batwoman.  Lots more out there, if anyone cares to dig them up.

I think that I saw a still of the Turkish Superman...I would love to see the rest of these.  ;D

Other countries' versions/rip offs don't really count as enforcing copyrights and trademarks in other countries is ridiculously difficult.

This movie has too many specific elements of Superman. The names Charlie and Louise vs Clark and Lois, the remote farm setting, the exact same costume minus only the symbol, the hero having dark hair and glasses in his civilian identity, multi colored rocks/crystals. They all come from one source. The only thing missing is the bald criminal scientist. As it seems to take itself seriously, it cannot skate by on the parody/satire clause. And, this is all just in the trailer. There have been lawsuits based on far less criteria. It's one thing to use an archetype, it's another to actually being a blatant rip-off.

I didn't want to post the link to the distributors or some of the review sites as these films are violent and have serious adult content.  Shame, cos they have to be seen to be believed.
Ed, The Turkish films also use James Bond soundtrack music and some other music that I recognise but can't remember where it's from.

Thanks for that...we certainly don't need any of our younger members coming across that material from here. Turkish Captain America does sound interesting though!  ;D ;D ;D
