Title: Golden Age Comics in new Private Eye Novel
Post by: Richard on February 20, 2023, 10:29:15 AM
My new Mark Desmond, Private Eye novel (3rd in the series) Everything Has A Price, has a lot to do with comics, comics collecting, and Golden Age comics. CB+ members might recognize its cover as something reminiscent of a well-known actual comic (alas, not Public Domain).
The plot begins with eight-year-old Amanda's request "Mr. Detective, I want you to find my comic book." At first, it seems simple enough a request to fulfil. Her errant Daddy is the prime suspect. Mark Desmond's search leads him down one of the weirdest paths in his PI career: the world of comic books. Complicating matters, he becomes romantically involved with Amanda's mother, Martine.
At the same time, Desmond's cop pal, Alex Darblay, faces a growing number of  unusual homicides that seem to have no purpose other than that of murdering victims in various outlandish ways.
As both investigations progress, an unexpected link between them becomes apparent. Soon enough, whoever is behind the 'Comic Book Murders' begins to zero in on Desmond and those close to him.
To solve the mystery, Desmond must open himself to experiencing the wildest reaches of love and despair.  Doing so, he will discover that "everything has a price".
The novel is available on Amazon (and elsewhere) either as a paperback or kindle.
And yes, of course, CB+ is given a mention.
I hope that those of you who decide to give it a try will enjoy it ... and maybe give it a rave review on Amazon.
