Title: A new recruit
Post by: Robert the painter on October 19, 2023, 03:42:44 PM
Hello all - I'm 73 (very soon) and used to read the comics and pocket mags featured on this site avidly, 60 odd years ago.  It was from the Fleetway pocket magazines, chiefly, that I first developed an interest in drawing - the Robin Hood, Dick Turpin, Captain Blood publications that were mostly to blame - and I've drawn and painted ever since, alongside pursuing a career in politics, health, housing, and journalism.  Coming back to comics in my (relative) old age.

Hello Robert.  Welcome to CB+. You couldn't have done better than those pocket libraries.  There is some lovely, excellent work in them.
Please tell us a bit about your art and how you found your way here.
I wonder what pulled you back into comics.
Lots to read and discussions to get involved with. Enjoy yourself.

Welcome Robert the Painter!

Coming back to comics in my (relative) old age.
Robert I'm 12 months ahead of you, and the way the world works, you will never catch up!
Was reading the other day about a man who had just turned 80 and his friend said, now you are undeniably an old man. You can be 'senior' up to 80 but after that there's no denying it! So, we both have a ways to go.  And what better way to enjoy those precious years than by reading and talking about comics.
I echo Paw, we would love to see some of your art here.
Please come over to the Reading Group and see what you think about Joe Maneeley's work.
Cheers!

Welcome, Robert!  We share a lot in common, both in our 8th decade (I'll be 77 in a few weeks), and I've recently almost completely retired (just working on a few comic book stories a year now) to relax, hang out with friends and family, and read comic books and mystery novels.  And my name is Robert(Robbert), too.  Like Panther and others here, I share  a curiosity to see your artwork, too.  You can see some of mine in my Avatar.  Have you drawn and painted longbow skirmishes in Sherwood Forest, and jousting scenes? - or pirate sea battles with great sailing ships?
