What happened to Yoc?
« on: March 06, 2010, 09:03:01 PM »

I went to send him a message and the site couldn't find him?!? Did he implode from joy when Canada won gold in hockey?

Sadly in this case I think questions might be a burden for others and answers a prison for oneself, when last seen he has been kidnapped and transported to a tiny little welsh village somewhere off the coast of moroco, his last words were " be seeing you- I hope " ;)

It looks like Janus redid the admin group. I think Aussie was listed as VIP as well as admin so still showed up as VIP but I guess Yoc was just admin so disappeared. Janus has not been back on since that time and since he is now the only admin no else can add Yoc back his new name will be #SIX

Actually Yoc was a VIP before being admin and I was always admin as far as I know, certainly the JVJ group never existed before I was admin so someone had to choose to put me in that group same as they did for our last previous admin Zog. The explanation if one is ever forthcoming will be interesting. You are on your own for the time being guys, Yoc and I are on holiday.

No, that's much too pat an answer. I smell a conspiracy!
Actually it just shows how fragile computers can be. One little slip and Yoc ceases to "exist". Just this morning I accidentally deleted the folder I had my GA comics on. I had just started downloading again on my new computer but still had over a hundred. *Poof* gone.

When Yoc does return will it be the 'real' him or some impostor who has taken over his body ?

His ghost most likely, spending so much time out in the cold his enthusiasm would have faded away.

Aussie from the logs it looks like Janus deleted the admin group then recreated it. He must have assigned you other titles first but not Yoc. Hope he responds soon

I think I FOUND him! He's locked in a Personal Message in my email InBox! Will try to arrange to break him loose when I figure out how to go about it. In the meantime, I'm running a backup so we don't lose him.

Peace, Jim (|:{>

We are about to begin the GAC version of where's Waldo. The hunt for Yoc begins. He was last seen on JVJ's hard drive. Where could he be now?

I did a search for him under "yoc" however I could not find him. I see that he is a guest (this happened because of the messages posted - but he is not in the system) He needs to reply so we can get him back.

He can't reply, because his account (somehow, presumably by accident, though I don't see how) no longer exists.  That's why you can't search for it or contact him, and why his posts appear as from a "Guest" with no link to an account.

For digging purposes, he was user #26, so you guys were disturbingly close.  Boox is actually six.

Did I just spoil the big ending or something?

Anyway, assuming it was unintentional, his account should be restorable right on the database side without Yoc getting involved at all.

Janus you are the only one who can restore Yoc. Please do so soon we need him. I am not knowledgeable or able to keep things running without him. In the logs you have his IP address. You can see where it looks like my IP changes to another. Those are ones done by Yoc that joined mine since he disappeared. You should have his email address and password to get him reestablished.

just to keep you all updated and aware, even searching 26 does not locate Yoc or anyone. Searching for 25, 27 etc. Results in finding a user. Thanks for the help, however Yoc simply needs to reapply. If there is something I need to be aware of kindly send me a private email.

I am working on some other issues of the site, so I will be around on and off today.

Thanks

Janus

I am pretty sure I know what happened and have mentioned it elsewhere. When you deleted the admin category it wiped out all memory of Yoc. All his eggs must have been in that basket. I have emailed Yoc to reapply. Aussie mentioned that they would both be away for awhile.

Yes, that's what I said.  The account is gone.

If Yoc reapplies, none of his messages will point to his account and he'd lose his Personal Messages.

Regardless of how it might have happened, the most straightforward thing to do would be to pull his information from the database backup and re-insert member #26.  It's simple to do, and there's no cleanup afterward.

If you don't have the database backup from Serj (which you must), I can use an older forum backup to just hack out the relevant line.

Doesn't it make sense for Yoc to reapply so he's back.  If his old account can be restored, the new one can be canceled, but at least he'll be here in the time being
