Probably Jumbo Comics #3 (November 1938) which adapts "Mr. Doodle Kicks Off" starring Joe Penner *adaptation of RKO Radio Film"

That does pre-date DC's MOVIE COMICS by 6 months, which featued the first adaption of movie serials in comics - "Scouts to the Rescue" , "Oregon Trail" and "The Phantom Creeps"

I like 'em, too. The only reason I knew that Jumbo info was that Bud Plant loaned me his copies of three oversized Jumbo's (#s 3,5,8) to index for the GCD. What a treat! I just remembered that movie thing because the star, Joe Penner, is featured on the cover of #3. When it comes to obscure fact, people say I'm full of it.
