I have been getting the Green Hornet and Kato year one series. Like them so far and Kato seems to have some strong potential. Any one tried Kevin Smith's GH? or GH Strikes?

I'm a big Green Hornet fan and have the 2 serials, lots of the radio shows, the complete T.V series and some (but not enough) comics.
The Now series was a right old mess (as mentioned on Flashback Universe)and I have to admit to giving up on it, despite the lovely early covers. The new Year 1 series is great and Wagner's take on the characters seems bang on to me. I have the first Kevin Smith issue but, although it was mildly entertaining, I found it too modern and pyrotechnic for my taste.  Some of the stuff Smith had them doing looked like powered hero moves and seemed out of character.  Still, it might appeal to some, and I'll keep reading for the time being.
I'm not a fan of comic book based films (although, surprisingly, Iron Man looked rather good and I might get round to watching it some day) and I don't hold out much hope for a G.H. film.

The big hope is that the GH film is not like the Spirit movie. BTW I have 2 vintage GH lunchboxes that my brother and I carried to elementary schools  ;D I have 2 vintage GH forks that I only paid a buck each for a few years ago

I hate the fact that they cast Seth Rogen for the movie...

Though I like Michael gondry, I am sure he will make the movie decent...

I just hope The Green Hornet is entertaining, I love the television show and enjoyed the Now Comics run ... heck, I still find The Shadow film entertaining. I hope that one day The Spider can make it to the screen.

I'm afraid I don't know who Rogen and Gondry are (although they sound like dodgy lawyers) so don't have an opinion on what they'll do or not do for the film.
The Spider now.  Well, there's a great character and I suppose we're talking about Richard Wentworth.  The first movie serial is really good and although the costume looks a bit dodgy he does wield 2 huge automatics, in genuine pulp tradition, and bad guys die.  If a Spider film could be made spooky enough and just this side of gory, I'd be happy.
Yes. I also like the Shadow film.
Anyone here enjoy or collect masked men movie serials?  Stuff like The Green Archer, Flying G-Men ( with the Black Falcon) The Masked Marvel, Vigilante etc.?

I saw a ad for The Green Archer -- found it interesting that he was concurrent with Green Arrow....I would have expected more lawsuits!  ;D

G.A is based on an Edgar Wallace story.
The Copperhead is rather good. Wasn't Dr. Satan originally meant to be the 3rd. Batman serial when they couldn't get the rights?  Same as Captain Africa was supposed to be the 2nd. Phantom serial.

If you haven't seen them might I suggest, The Secret Code ( with The Black Commando) - goes like the clappers.  And, of course, both Hornet serials and both Spiders?

I think I heard that The Mysterious Dr. Satan was supposed a Superman serial which makes it interesting some of the threats the Copperhead has to face. Haven't watched it in years though. I like The Green Archer serial, he does pre-date Green Arrow by about 20 years or so. I thought Jory did a great job as the Shadow in the Shadow serial which has good parts. Not seen the Spider one though. I enjoyed the first Green Hornet though it's a bit more episodic than most serials.

The Secret Code with the Black Commando is good (think I heard it was originally for the Black Hood?). Big fan of King of the Rocketmen.

In some regards I like the Shadow movie. But, I think it and the Phantom both aimed a bit too low and went a little over the top with the campiness (much like the 70's Doc Savage movie). In both cases, they had a good cast but never really cut loose with the characters and action, and the sense of threat and danger. You have the Shadow and the only shooting he does is to get rid of the concrete around Dr. Tan? I think both could have easily been "great" but they aimed at merely being "good".

Oh no not another corny adaptation. Expected as much with Seth Rogan. Looks like Kato is by far the star. May be successfrul with those who have never knew the Green Hornet

One of my friends is reporting a rather bland view of the film, but I'm keep'n the faith.

Anyone seen the film yet?

Yeah, I was gonna ask the same thing.  It's playing right now in my town.  Wondering if I should just wait for the DVD though.
