When you're down at the local comic shop, what do you buy? I don't mean back issues, I'm talking new stuff. I have a standing order for all the Disney stuff. (I buy them for my granddaughters but, yeah, I read 'em first.) The last series I bought faithfully was the Joe Kubert "Tor" series from DC, about a year and a half ago. An occasional Rex Mundi or something of the jungle genre usually finds its way into my hands. Luckily our local shop is also a gaming store, so it doesn't have to depend solely on comics to stay in business. So what new comics do you buy? Anything good I'm missing out on? Cheers, Jeff

I buy only two comics - Echo by Terry Moore and Glamourpuss by Dave Sim - and Echo is slowly losing its charm.

Over the last few years I bought hardly any new titles apart from whatever Phantom comics came out. Now, I've been buying Zorro, The Lone Ranger and Black Terror. The latter out of a connection with the character since I first discovered him all those years ago and I'm not sure how long that connection will be enough to keep me going. I've asked the wee comic shop in Stirling to keep me the Green Hornet titles, for a while at least. And, Of course, despite my serious misgivings about the direction, The Phantom.  That's about it.

I'm also getting The Torch and The Marvels Project, but since they're nearing the end... I'm thinking of dropping Project Superpowers and Black Terror and switching to collections for them. JLA, Batman, and Teen Titans are kind of on thin ice at the moment. And since Adventure is supposed to become a Legion book, I'll probably drop it. The Superman books have been so dull with this New Krypton stuff, but I'm sticking with them. I've tried dropping them several times in the last 6 years, but since Superman is what got me into comics to begin with, I keep coming back and catching up. I'm not dropping them again. The only book I plan to add is the GA Green Hornet reprint.

I stopped getting Echo some time ago as it was going nowhere slowly.

I would be getting Time Lincoln, Agon and Army of Two but Diamond never ships them to my LCS so I have to read scans. I never got Phantom Double Shot 2 but 3 showed up at my LCS so I keep hoping the others start showing up. I do not order them online because I want to support my LCS. The scans hold me over and keep me up to date but are not as satisfying.

 Haven't seen the Phantom (a big personal favorite) or Buck Rodgers issues. My local comic shop doesn't get much Diamond, but I suppose they'd order them for me. It will probably take longer than ordering online, but I think it's really important for us all to support our local shops as much as possible. Heck, if they go out of business where will I hang out with friends on a Saturday afternoon? Cheers, Jeff

While I do not actively collect daredevil anymore, I do have have the entire daredevil series volume 2, and I do have the first issue of daredevil from the volume 1 series. Just going off the top of my head think it is around 1968?

And..I would always been tempted if Alpha Flight came back....are they back?

Just read Green Hornet Strikes #1 not impressed but will try #2 before deciding. I did add Kevin Smith's Kato to my pull list. So far I have enjoyed Kato Origins more than GH Origins and Smith's Kato more then GH. I have GH Origins which I did like just Kato Origins more on my pull list, Kato and Kato Origins are on my pull list.

I try to get my hands on Mike Mignola's stuff...Hellboy and B.P.R.D., although it has been a long time in getting to a teaser-style plot delivered.  Clues, but never any answers.  I do love the mix of archeological / mythological / sci-fi mash up.

I don't remember buying a single comic book since I first started using the net. Before that I only bought a few old comics at flea markets, and a bunch of the reprinted Spirit Comics dirt cheap at a salvage store.

I did find a get buy on the hardbound Shadow graphic novel at the dollar store years ago.

Do you ever run across Golden Age reprints in French? Say, Marvel's 70th Anniversary titles from last year; were these and the reprints in them in French (if they were available that is)?

Just curious. I would love to see something like this.

Unfortunately, no Marvel Golden Age reprints. It would have been great, but no French version. And I'm afraid Golden Age comics don't sell much here. The initial Project Superpowers series was a commercial failure, so Panini won't risk themselves into publishing Golden Age-related comics anymore. I guess Tom Strong Terra Obscura didn't sell well too.

In fact, if you want some Golden Age comics, look for smaller publishers. One published "I Shall Destroy All Civilized Planets" a few years ago, but the most active is Univers Comics, with three collections that were supposed to be regularly published: Golden Titans (reprints from AC Comics' Black Terror, Mr Scarlet and Phantom Lady), Golden Comics (an anthology with issues hinged on themes - to date it's Horror, Romance and SF)  and Golden Legends (special issues with entire series - Avon Comics' Dracula and Crom The Barbarian).

I was supposed to translate upcoming issues, but no news from Fred since February...

If you want, I may provide scans from these in another topic.

Now, to get back on track, I forgot Freaks' Squeele in my list. It's not the typical French 48 pages album, it's definitely an original series that comes into albums that have something like 200 pages, a sort of superhero hybrid French-US-Japanese-Corean comics. I think it will make to the international market someday, because there's a cartoon in production. A French series that looks like no other.

I usually get DC trade paper backs. Mainly JLA/JSA or one of the characters solo titles. Also, Birds of Prey and the Outsiders. My wife loves Teen Titans (including Teen Titans Go!). I'll especially make room on the shelf for those Showcase reprints even though they are b/w.

Some indy titles, like Fable or Rod Espinosa's fairy tale remakes. I like Girl Genius a lot but follow it mainly on the web but I do have a few volumes in print.

Foreign titles I collect are Judge Dredd, and the various mangas that catch my eye like ID-Entity, or my wife got me into Witch School and Slayers.

I just read DCU Legacies and really liked it. Stories from yesteryear. Crimson Avenger, Sandman and the Atom do their thing just like in the Golden Age. This title will span the DCU timeline but that is OK since I was a huge SA fan and grew up silver. You can only get the GA issues if that is what you enjoy. I added it to my pull list.

Reading on a PC screen is tiring, so I prefer reading good ol' books. The problem is that I already have too many. The only comics I read on screen are comics from here, webcomics or comics that didn't make it to France and cannot be found easily.

I agree that PC comics are just not the same. I could get digital copies of all the new comics I get but buy for three reasons. 1)support the creators and industry who can not work for free (2) support my local comic shop (3) I prefer reading the paper versions. Now Diamond has been really bad about getting some of what I want to my LCS so the only way I can get them is digital.
