Eerie 5 and 9 covers - same girl
« on: August 09, 2010, 10:29:29 PM »

Eerie 5 and 9 covers have the same girl, only different colored hair and earring, same red blouse. Was it common to reuse such images that blatantly?  Or did someone just like that (fetchingly startled!) pose?

And now I wonder if there are lots of other examples of this?

Good catch. From what I have read some artists had files of pics that they would use as needed.

And there she is again on issue #13. It's just a blatant example of swipes.

IMHO.

The girl on the cover of #13 looks like a slightly redrawn version of the one on #9, but you can tell that #9 was practically lifted from #5. Here's something funny: look at the gap to the right of her waist on #5, and you can see a couple of jugs on the ground. Now, look in the same spot next to #9's waist, and you can see one of the same jugs, that the artist forgot to remove!

Actually, the girl on #9 cover is a STAT, with reworked hair, of the girl on the issue 5 cover (as witness the "jugs" [LOL, Snard]). You can see ALL of the Eerie covers, albeit not so large, on GCD. And the cover on #9 is NOT by Check (well, except for the photostat of the girl, I suppose). The Hollingsworth cover on #10 is a direct swipe from a Hannes Bok pulp cover. None of these guys was any better than he had to be, it seems.

Covers were more to catch the eye from a distance, not in the same class as true story telling artwork.

I suspect many a cover was examined and someone in charge might say "not flashy enough add a chick with big knockers, that should sell a few more copies".
Then rather than risk missing a deadline the stock honey shots would be sorted through and one popular image added.

I'd noted that in a few GC comics images of ladies in distress look like they'd been copied directly from porno photos. The pose not an exact match for the rest of the scene.

Stat as in photostat, I assume.

(and, I almost said "no, not THOSE jugs!" so I guess our minds are in the same gutter ;) )

That's funny. (Almost something I might have tried to get away with in those days if I was an artist, of course,)
