Hi,

I have 10 spirit comics that i have no way of identifying.
They are coverless and have no indication on them anywhere of who published them.
I believe they were made for a building society/bank whose stamp is on the front to give to kids to keep them entertained while there parents did there transactions.
Each book is 16pgs 100% sure they reprinted stories spirit, lady luck etc can't find them in my price guide date probably mid 1940's?.
Anyone shed any light on them would these be acceptable uploads not sure what you would list them as.

I've seen something like this before, a friend of mine lent me a few notebooks of collected newspaper inserts when I was a kid, and among them were a few that resembled what you are describing, but I couldn't tell you anything else beyond that.

Spirit newspaper sections were 16 pages (in the beginning) and had no covers. Eisner was quite the businessman/promoter.  I wouldn't be surprised if these were just Spirit sections in a bit of a different design for use as giveaways.

You can check Cat Yronwode's index of the Spirit sections and other things here.

Yep, but didn't all of the insert ones have the name of the newspaper on the top of each page? Or did this practice vary from paper to paper?

Red if you could send some scans maybe someone could identify them. Have you compared them to what we already have onsite.

Narf, I'm about 90% certain that Red has some original newspaper inserts, if so, they're from an old Baltimore newspaper.

Okay, this has really jogged an old memory out of my head, because when I was a kid, the copies of old Spirit inserts that I had access to were mostly from the Philadelphia Record newspaper. But, I also had a few from the Mutual Benefit Society, which were from Baltimore. When you first posted this, I thought that what you were talking about sounded very familiar, but it took me a little while to remember why. Wow, that was a blast from the past. If you can, you should scan some of those, I know a few of us would like to see them.
