Swift Morgan Space Comic #50
« on: February 06, 2012, 01:20:05 AM »

Looking for info / value on this book. Couldn't find any auctions on UK ebay.
Found some info online:

Swift Morgan Space Comic #50, March 1953
Artist: Denis McLoughlin.

Anyone have any idea if it's fairly common or scarce
and general value. Thanks!

Hi, hiropr, I haven't seen one of these in a while. It appeared in 1953, published by Popular and was 1 of 2, the other being numbered 52. they cost 6d. (6 old pennies, sterling - before we went metric)  The old guide I have suggests a nm. value of

Hi Paw Broon,

Thanks for your reply. Not looking to sell it. Had picked it up mixed in with a lot
of comics that I had purchased quite a few years ago and just recently rediscovered
it in my boxes. It's the only UK comic that I have in my collection. I'm the US and
was just looking for more info / value. Will just keep it as a great piece of UK comic history!

Have looked up Denis McLoughlin online. A talented man and an interesting life
with a tragic end! Unfortunately it seems that he never was really well
compensated for his work. That's a story we've all seen time and again about comic
artists of the past and unfortuantely seemed to be the norm for that time,
no matter where you worked.

Thanks for your time and all the info.

Hope I'm not over-egging the pudding, but, for those who don't know of him, I want to post a link to an old page on McLoughlin, here:-
http://www.leylander.org/intercom/denismc/denis.htm
You can read a Roy Carson story, which also features his glamourous sidekick, Silk.
And a list of his work, incl, the Boardman comics, here:-
