It's interesting that, instead of a two-page text story that nobody would read, Avon chose to comply with second-class permit rules by offering record reviews. The records reviewed here were fairly new ones, some of them being the first that certain artists had out after the second strike of the AFM against the record companies. And they cover a fairy wide range of the popular music of early 1949, without delving too deeply into Country, Rhythm-and-Blues, or other ethnic categories. Mostly praises, although a few of the discs get mild criticism.

Thanks for pointing out those record reviews, netrap. I recognized most of the artists but I've only heard two of the recordings. Phooey on the reviewer for saving his one hatchet job for "Santiago, Chile." I enjoy novelty songs, and "Santiago, Chile" and "Constantinople" are favorites of mine.
