For Animal Comics #20. Sent December 4, 1944." (He skipped in his numbering from #18 written the previous month, to #20 for the story written this month, but these were just personal account books, never intended as a conclusive publication record.)
The page count was reduced to 8 pages, but is told in what must have been the original 80 panel script. Had it been published as the original 10-page story, it would have averaged ten 8-panel pages (8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8 or 7-8-8-9-8-8-9-8-8-7 or some other combination). As published, the panel-count per page (averaging 10 panels per page) presents as: 10-11-10-9-10-10-10-10. Artist H. R. McBride makes it look effortless, a testimony both to his graphic skill and talent, and to Du Bois's script narrative. |
