What a really odd place to find the first comic book appearance (pages 32-37) of Walt Disney's GREMLINS, in a title essentially devoted exclusively to true-life biographies of war heroes! I mean, granted it's a Dell comic book, and Dell held the Disney license in 1943... but still.

It does make sense to put the 'Gremlins' story in this book. It's based on a very real superstition held by Aviators back then. Here's William Shatner meeting on in what was his most famous role before Star Trek. Original NIGHTMARE AT 20,0000 FEET (1963) w/ SFX from the Remake (1983) https:www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4HjDc44_VQ&ab_channel=MovieWeirdo Gremlins Were A Pilot’s Worst Enemy During World War II https:www.warhistoryonline.com/instant-articles/gremlins-were-a-pilots-worst-enemy-during-wwii.ht ml Stranger than fiction.

What I meant is that by making gremlins into a children's storybook and cute l'il cartoon characters, Disney was exploding the myth, and turning it into a fairy tale. And as such, it's out-of-place in Dell's comic book recounting very real events of WWII. I mean, this isn't the kind of treatment given to WWII 'Foo-Fighters' in Gold Key's later UFO FLYING SAUCERS comic book, where it's treated in documentary fashion, as with the other stories in WAR HEROES. With the exception of that single one-off appearance of Disney's Gremlins, WAR HEROES did not feature any other war-related humor strips of the Pvt. Snafu or Sad Sack type.
