| The Wonderman stories were printed out of order, a grievous error indeed for the publisher given that the Wonderman stories were not only the typical lead stories in Mystery Comics, but also invariably the subject of the series' covers. I've sorted out what should have been the correct publication sequence of the Wonderman stories, following the logic of the storyline. The first Wonderman stories appeared, as did many of the Mystery Comics heroes and storylines, in COMPLETE BOOK OF COMICS AND FUNNIES #1. A month later new title Mystery Comics is introduced and within in its pages the ongoing adventures of Wonderman continue, but the sequentially correct following episode—which should have appeared in Mystery Comics #1—instead was published in Mystery Comics #2. This story introduces Dr. Voodoo and his ingenious "vacuum spiral,” which becomes central to the following stories, opening up access first to the planet Mars and then later the invisible planet Lilith. The story that WAS published in this first issue of Mystery Comics should have been published in Mystery Comics #4. |

Previous indexer credited Everett Raymond Kinstler for pencils and Ken Battefield for inks, but Jerry Bails only noted Kinstler as having done inks for Silver Knight, and the pencils in this story, particularly with the faces, aren’t consistent with Kinstler’s solo credited works, such as from Thrilling Comics #45 (December, 1944) and Real Life Comics #25 (September, 1945). |
