Store manager Clay is attracted to Lucille and Barry urges her to be “nice” to Morgan and put in a good word for him. Clay gives Barry a promotion in a store elsewhere and Barry agrees to let Lucille date Clay while he’s gone. Lucille and Clay fall in love; they go to visit Barry and find him with another woman. Lucille can now love Clay freely. |

Paula returns to the city; Carl follows and agrees to get a job there for Paula’s sake. However, when Paula snubs his friends, Carl goes home. Paula realizes Carl “is worth more than the rest of you put together!” and she heads for the farm. |

They plan to marry, and Karen decides to confess everything to Jeff and introduce him to her father. When they arrive, they learn there has been a cave-in at the mine and Karen’s father is trapped. He and the other men are rescued. Jeff says he doesn’t care about Karen’s background: “I’ll be glad to have a coal town girl for a wife.” |
