Dr. Mortal shrinks humans just like in the Paramount movie DR. CYCLOPS. It might be a coincidence, however. The release date of DR. CYCLOPS was April 12, 1940; the on-sale date for this issue of WEIRD COMICS was June 15, 1940. Was two months enough time to produce the comic in those days?

Dr. Barmell was shrinking people to doll size in Amazing Man Comics #5 cover dated September 1939. So something about the idea of shrinking people must have been floating about pop culture of the time.
