| The stories in Green Hornet #10 are classic pulp era revenge and surprise stories. I even enjoy the supporting characters like Spirit of '76 and the Blonde Bomber. What is amazing about this issue is how much definition has been lost with Kirby and Simon not working on the book. The inking style in particular seems much lighter and the colors seem brighter, making the book feel more juvenile than the earlier volumes. What an interesting comparison you've provided for us. |

| It's a surprise to see Kato speaking standard English most of the time. It's also a surprise to see how often Sahle avoids drawing Mike Lancer's face! Rear views, shadows, and vague profiles are the norm. When we do see him he's a pretty homely mugg. This must be how Spillane wanted it, because in the Mike Hammer newspaper strip Ed Robbins also drew the hero as borderline ugly.
When this comic came out, Flit was a familiar trademark for an insecticide. Dr Seuss was drawing cartoons in the big magazines advertising the "Flit Gun." The company must have loved the wall-to-wall product placement in the Mighty Midgets story. |
